![]() At the end of the shaman battles where the remaining teams consist of Yoh and his friends, the X-Laws, and Hao's team, the remaining teams decide to forfeit the tournament crowning Hao the title of Shaman King. During the Shaman Fight, Yoh encounters Hao Asakura, a strong shaman who wishes to eradicate humans and create a world for shamans. Thus begins the plot that will lead Yoh on a journey that will lead him to befriend Ryu, Tao Ren, Horohoro, Faust VIII, Lyserg Diethel, and Joco. Anna Kyoyama, Yoh's fiancée, soon enters the picture and prescribes a brutal training regimen, in order to prepare Yoh for the tournament. The winner gains the ability to reshape the world in any way they want. The Shaman Fight is a battle held once every 500 years between competing shamans to choose a winner who will become the highly sought-after "Shaman King", one who is able to contact the Great Spirit (the spirit that every soul will eventually go back to). Over the first few chapters, Yoh and Manta become best friends while Yoh uses his shamanic abilities to help them out through various normal tasks. Yoh also demonstrates Shamans' ability to unite with ghosts to achieve a shared goal. Yoh reveals himself to be a shaman, a medium between the worlds of the living and the worlds of the dead. While travelling through it, he encounters Yoh Asakura and his "companions": a graveyard filled with ghosts. 9 through 12 occuring throughout October 1999, and the Main Tournament beginning (and ending) in January 2000.Manta Oyamada, a shrimpy, studious middle-school student from Tokyo, attempts a shortcut one night through the graveyard to get home after a late night of cram school. 8 as happening in September 1999, the trip through America in vol. The timeline denotes the fight with Ren in vol. 5 takes place in April and the trip to Izumo in vol. 4 happened on or shortly after February 8th 1999, and the manga also specifically notes that the Faust fight in vol. We can see from the diary entries that Ren’s fight against Chrom (and therefore Yoh’s test with Silva) in vol. In Japan, new terms begin in April, September, and January, so her appearance at the school must be September 1998, given Yoh’s age and other dates such as the appearance of the comet Ragoh in vol. We know the series begins around summer 1998 because Yoh is 13 and Chapter 11 mentions that Anna comes to the school at the start of a new term. The whole series occurs over about a year and a half. His 3-year reference is a mistake on Takei’s part I just chock it up to sitting around for 600 years killing his sense of time )Īnyways! Using this timeline here and a couple Patch Tribe diary entries from mentalite (a guidebook released with the Kanzenban edition of the manga) as well as a few references scattered throughout the chapters (see below), you can piece together a fairly precise timeline, beginning in summer (probably June or July) 1998 and ending in January 2000. So, how long does that story actually take? What time has passed at the beginning of 2nd round and at the end of the Shaman fight? Do we have any concrete dates or call backs to time passed? Also, if you can add all the spin-offs (I only read Flowers and Funbari no Uta but idc about spoilers).įirst off: Amidamaru is wrong. Sure, he might have been traumatised by the fact that Yoh keeps destroying his sword and have a mild memory loss but everywhere I found ages of characters I read that they all aged one year during the story which puts the whole timeline to around 1-1,5 year, did I miss something? I'm currently on the first time in second round that Yoh uses Amidamaru and Amidamaru has a tiny flashback during which he says that it has been 3 years since he met Yoh. Originally, I thought it might have been half a year tops but the most recent chapter I opened confused me. But I'm struggling to calculate the time since the start of the story. ![]() To my understanding, they were traveling through America (from being dropped by plane till waking up in Patch village) for about a month because they reference that they were in the village for 2 months many times and the whole time limit is 3 months. But I'm struggling with understanding the time duration, I'm not sure how much of it is due to bad translation or my misuderstanding. I read Shaman King after Kanzenban was fully published and since new anime started, I decided to reread it for clarity and to see what was omitted/missed. Hey, I have no idea what the spoilers rules here are since the manga is old but I tagged it just to be safe. ![]()
